Development Timeline
1927
Reclamation of the area, now known as Port Nikau, is commissioned by the Northland Harbour Board.
1930
Eastpoint wharves are built for Northland Harbour Board to export dairy and meat products.
1970s
Tide Gauge Building is built as the Watersiders’ Amenities Building to service loading and unloading of fertiliser ships, and later as a base for port logs.
2004-07
Northland Harbour Board land is acquired by private interests under Port Nikau Joint Venture.
2010
Plan Change 78 provided a pathway for redevelopment of the industrial ex-Harbour Board land to a mixed-use environment.
2015
Eastpoint marina is built and businesses begin operating from the commercial precinct in Logyard Road.
2021
The Port Nikau Development Area (PNDA) Masterplan is adopted into the Whangarei District Plan.
2025
Arataki Stage 1A residential development gets underway with titles expected by the end of 2025. Port Nikau Marina (Pier B and C) is in full operation.
2026
Our first residents will be welcomed to Port Nikau and public parks and walkways opened.
2028
First of Port Nikau town centre facilities due to open, including retail, hospitality and office buildings.
2031
Arataki Stage 1A residential area is completed, with more than 400+ sections sold and residents enjoying Port Nikau life.
2035
Residential sections at Park Point are scheduled for completion (along with terraced housing, which may be available from 2029)Port Nikau Residential
